Melbourne returned to the scene of the 186 point thrashing that cost Dean Bailey his job and put in a creditable performance against a much less exciting Geelong side.
The Demons got to within two goals during the third quarter before Geelong kicked away again. Another low scoring last term proved costly for the Demons.
Best were Clark, Jones and Frawley. Lynden Dunn replaced Luke Tapscott during the third quarter.
