Selectors reacted savagely to the Round 5 loss to the Pies by axing three stars. Denis Clark, Brent Jones and Greg Wells were dropped, and John Letcher was unavailable after surgery on a broken nose.
Peter Keenan returned after serving a suspension, and Graham Molloy finally debuted after a protracted clearance wrangle with Norwood. Barry Bourke and Trevor Rollinson also returned.
The Dons started freely and were better than their lead at quarter time. It was then that John Beckwith gambled with moving Greg Parke into the centre. It paid handsome dividends - Parke raked in 28 kicks and 24 marks throughout the day. Ross Dillon moved to centre half-forward at the same time and the two dominated.
Rollinson, Sullivan and Walker were named alongside Parke and Dillon as the best Demons. Campbell (bruised hip) was replaced by Weekes in the last quarter, McKenzie was replaced by Wells in the last quarter.
