Five losses in a row to start the year had seen the Demons go into panic mode, and their mood wasn't made much better by a loss to their MCG co-tenants - their seventh straight loss to the Tigers.
After a tight first quarter Richmond kicked away in the second and by three quarter time they were comfortably in front. John Beckwith roasted his players unmercifully at the last break and his side responded with a desperate 4.7 to 0.5 last quarter built on quick, play on football. It wasn't nearly enough and the best they could manage was to avoid being thrashed.
Best were Rollinson, Clarke and Parke. Tassie Johnson and Derek Feldmann both left the game at half time with ankle injuries. First gamer David Hayes also played the game out but suffered torn ankle ligaments and didn't play another senior match.
