Sitting equal last without a win, the WACA looked an unlikely place for Melbourne to nearly snap their losing streak. Despite a brave showing against the 3-1 Eagles, they lost again, all but ending their 1995 season.
After the Demons clawed their back from a four goal deficit in a low-scoring game, the decisive break came early in the last quarter when Paul Symmons kicked two quick goals for the Eagles. Until then it had been a battle of defences, with Sean Wight keeping Peter Sumich to one kick before the West Coast spearhead was removed from the ground before half time. His fellow Irishman Jim Stynes also put in a strong performance in the ruck.
Best were Dyson, Lyon and Stynes.
Neil Balme flagged launching an official complaint to both the AFL and WACA after he had to spend most of the night on the boundary line because phone lines between the coaches' box and interchange broke down.
