Another week, another win for the flawless Demons who extended their unbeaten streak to start the season. In perfect conditions the lamentable Bears were kept goalless until the third quarter and then kicked just one in the last term.

Allen Jakovich outscored the entire Bears team by ten points.

Best were M. Febey, Dyson and Schwarz. Garry Lyon (concussion) and Stephen Tingay (bruised buttocks) were late withdrawals. Sean Wight suffered a hamstring injury.

The victory left Melbourne at the top of the ladder after the two other previously unbeaten sides North Melbourne and Collingwood were both beaten.
