Decimated by injuries, the home side wasn't expected to cause Melbourne many issues, and despite the Demons not being at their best they ran away to a comfortable victory.
Melbourne got the first two goals, but when West Coast replied with a pair of their own in the middle of the quarter scores were tied. Then three goals to end to the term, including two late in the quarter, made sure the Eagles didn't get the sniff of an upset. Five goals to one during the third term made sure of another big victory at Perth Stadium.
Best were Oliver, Petracca and Grundy
James Jordon replaced Michael Hibberd (achilles) in the fourth quarter. Jake Lever injured his ankle.
