After two losses in a row, the Demons faltering season was temporarily put back on track with a thrilling Friday night win.
The Demons led comfortably at the last change, but not everything was going their way. Scott Chisholm was deemed to have pushed his opponent in the back in the goal square when it appeared that he had laid a perfect goal-saving tackle - and it allowed the Hawks to boot an easy goal.
At the 30 minute mark with the scores locked together Jeff Farmer had two chances to win the game. He dropped a mark in the forward pocket then tried to handball into the square when he could have kicked the winning score.
It was Russell Robertson who forced through a point from a bounce at the 32 minute mark to put the Demons in front by a point. Hawthorn rebounded from the kick-in and bombed the ball inside 50 one last time, only for Stephen Tingay to mark and win the game.
David Schwarz and Troy Longmuir were also amongst the best.
