Highest score at Motordrome
Geelong hadn't won at the MCG since 1927, but with the Reds temporarily located at the Motordrome they took their chance to heap further misery on Melbourne - who had been in the top four at the same the previous season but were now at the bottom of the ladder without a win.
It was Geelong's highest ever score against Melbourne to that point. Despite the big loss the Redlegs had only managed one higher score against Geelong since 1926.
Thomas was named 19th man.
