In their first match in Perth's new stadium, the Demons secured their first finals berth in 12 years. They jumped to a four goal lead early, and then again in the third quarter before the Eagles struck back. The home side hit the lead midway through the last quarter, before Melbourne struck back when a flowing move from defence ended with Jake Melksham on his own in the goalsquare. The margin was then extended beyond a goal with a set shot from Dean Kent, before Melksham added another to confirm the result.
Best were Gawn, Harmes and Oliver. Aaron vandenBerg was fined $2000 for striking.
