Despite being clearly the best team all day the Saints took until the last quarter before they truly pressed their advantage and romped home to victory. In a dull game the only thing the Demons could take from the match was the fact that they had proved a nuisance to their far superior opposition for three quarters.
Hassa Mann nearly embarassed himself in the second quarter when a quick kick out of the pack deep in defence flew at the Saint goal before rolling out of bounds.
Brian Roet beat Daryl Baldock, but the Saint captain had the excuse of having hurt his hamstring during the first quarter. It was only when future Demon Allan Davis went to full-forward in the last quarter and booted three goals that his side charged away.
Best were Feldmann, Alves and Dixon. Roet and Lees were replaced by Kenneally and Whitton respectively at three quarter time.
