After sneaking an undeserved victory against North Melbourne in Round 1 the Demons luck ran out against Geelong where they were beaten comfortably.
The tone of the game was set in the first quarter where the Cats dominated with six goals. Even a fracas following Polly Farmer's rough treatment of Ken Emselle didn't deter the visitors from their mission of demolishing the Demons.
It took until the third quarter for skipper Hassa Mann to come to life and kick three of his four goals for the day and drag the Demons back into the game. Norm Smith tried to make alterations to support Mann but nothing else was working and the coach was left to lament that "as soon as I plugged one hole another one seemed to open up".
Best were Mann, Williams and Johnson. Emselle (bruised eye) was replaced by Toll at half time. Dowsing (bruised thigh) was replaced by Murnane in the last term. Mann also had a bruised thigh.
