Melbourne returned to the MCG 10 days after their first game, to play a side making their first appearance of 2024. The Bulldogs had the jump on Melbourne, opening a two goal lead in the first quarter before being pegged back. The hosts took a narrow lead into quarter time, before a four goal to two second quarter opened a handy lead at the break. In a low scoring third term, they kicked two of the three goals before running away with the game in the final term.
Ex-Demon James Harmes debuted for the Bulldogs, but was reported for headbutting Steven May and suspended for a week)).
Best were Oliver, May and Gawn. Taj Woewodin replaced Caleb Windsor in the fourth quarter.
Notes
The AFL referred to the game as 'Round 1', but it is noted as Round 1B to differentiate from the first game of the season
