After a disappointing loss against Essendon a week earlier, the Demons bounced back against the bottom side in the competition. They got off to a fast start, and opened up a lead of over six goals at half time - courtesy of three goals from Jesse Hogan - before the game degenerated into a scrap in the second half.
Brisbane won the second half but Hogan's fourth goal in the last quarter killed off their challenge.
It was the lowest score conceded by Melbourne since Round 10, 1994
Best were Hogan, Dawes and Cross. Alex Neal-Bullen replaced Jay Kennedy Harris during the third quarter.
