Having lost the previous week by over 100 points, the hapless Melbourne put in a slightly better performance against St Kilda but were still beaten comfortably.
In a poor exhibition of football where players drifted all around the ground and out of position the difference was St Kilda's ability to pass the ball and to kick to the advantage of their forwards while Melbourne were terrible in getting the ball forward.
It took until the third quarter, when Melbourne sent Leith forward and opened up with two goals, for the home visitors to get moving. They had the best of the second half but struggled to breach St Kilda's defence and were too far behind to make a difference.
Best were Sleeman, Taylor and Boynton.
