After registering their second win of the season a week earlier, the Demons faced a significantly harder task against the defending premiers.
Melbourne were far from disgraced, losing by just over five goals, but while their defenders held Sydney's forwards reasonably well much of the limited damage could be put down to the Swans missing a number of easy chances.
Sydney's cause was helped by their domination of centre clearances, often going straight out of the middle of the ground and into attack from bounces. When Melbourne did get the ball forward they were reasonably efficient in their scoring, but couldn't do it often enough to get close.
Best were Terlich, Fitzpatrick and Frawley
Shannon Byrnes replaced James Frawley in the third quarter when Frawley suffered a hamstring injury.
