Biggest loss against Collingwood

The winless Reds hadn't been disgraced a week earlier despite losing to Carlton by 10 goals. They had narrowly won the second half to give themselves some confidence of stealing a win in the last few weeks of the season, but seven days later their horror season reached its lowest point when they were thrashed by the premiership chasing Magpies.

Collingwood got the first goal of the game, and despite Melbourne playing reasonable football at times during the quarter they went into the first break 16 points down. That was as good as it got for them, kicking just 3.6 more for the rest of the match as they conceded 16.21. It took until late in the third quarter for them to register their third major for the day.

The visitors had been poor at goalkicking all day, and it was keeping the margin respectable, but they improved in the last with 8.1 to register what was to that point in history their highest ever score - besting a mark they'd set in 1901.

Best were Warne-Smith, Matthews and McLean.
