The Reds disappointing season continued to go from bad to worse. They returned from a losing trip to Sydney to suffer another VFL defeat.
Without Haines, Wilson or Lilley the 26 point margin represented a decent performance by Melbourne against the strong Swans but after having beaten them once that season they were now down to second last. At half time it looked like the long winning streak might be broken, but a score of just one behind in the third quarter condemned them to another loss.
Vern Moore was found guilty of an offence and suspended for the rest of the season. AFL Records do not show this suspension but it is mentioned in the Football Record of the next week.
Chadwick, Johnson and Shelton were best.
