Neale Daniher had described his side as "rock bottom" after the Queen's Birthday capitulation to Collingwood, but perhaps he should have saved his comment for the week after. Melbourne were even worse at AAMI Stadium, and were belted for the second week in a row.

Ian Perrie kicked four goals in the opening thirteen minutes and was so dominant that, having seen off Alistair Nicholson and Chris Lamb, Daniher was forced to throw David Neitz onto him. Using the reigning Coleman Medallist as a key-defender out of desperation summed up exactly where the Demons were at. Once Perrie was subdued, Brett Burton added two goals to make it a 31 point margin at the first break.

Melbourne's midfield matched the Crows, but their delivery to the forwards was poor. The second quarter started positively, but a botched Travis Johnstone kick in defence gifted Tyson Edwards a goal, the margin was back out over five goals and that was the end of the Demons.

Perrie kicked two more goals on Neitz in the 3rd term, with one of them coming after the Melbourne captain had given away a 50m penalty after frustration boiled over and he pushed Perrie to the ground after a marking contest.

The margin blew out to 90 points, but three late goals turned a total humiliation into a regulation massacre.

Best was Brad Green.
