Stan Heal (2nd game)

Maurie Gibb was reported for time wasting, but for the second week in a row he was found not guilty at the tribunal. A week earlier he'd been booked for striking but had beaten the charge.

Fitzroy were a worthy opposition across the first three quarters, led chiefly by an attack who were deadly accurate when kicking for goal. It took until the last term before Melbouren finally asserted themselves and confirmed victory.

Mueller, Beames and Heal were best in the victory which lifted Melbourne to second, level on games won with Carlton and behind them by just one percentage.

Ted Cordner, McGrath and Baggott were best.
