After the elation of a surprise, first up win for stand-in coach Greg Hutchison a week earlier he was brought back to earth as the Demons returned to the low scoring, easily beaten team they had been for most of the season.
The Crows opened up a 33 point lead in the first quarter and Melbourne never got close again. The only positive to come out of the match was the third return from knee injury by David Schwarz who got through the match unscathed and had two kicks for two goals.
Best for Melbourne were Stynes, Yze and Steven Febey.
