The Demons recovered from a slow first quarter to kick 10 goals in a row across the second and third terms to set up a commanding lead. It was the first time Melbourne had beaten St Kilda since the 2006 Elimination Final.
Best were Oliver, Jetta and Jones. First gamer Joel Smith suffered a serious shoulder injury in the first quarter. Bernie Vince was suspended for one match for striking.
