July 1893 Match vs Collingwood

Collingwood 0.0, 0.3, 0.3, 0.6

Melbourne win by 4 goals

Goalkickers: David Christy 2, Pat O'Dea 1, Roche 1

For the second week in a row Melbourne kept their opponents goalless, extending their unbeaten streak to 11. The largest crowd yet seen at the Collingwood ground turned out to see if their team could deal the reds their first loss of the season but went home disappointed.

They were the better side, and it helped that Collingwood missed several chances, but the visitors were handicapped by accidents as the game went on. The match opened with an air of roughness from both teams which spoiled it as a spectacle.

The strong wind favoured one end of the ground, and the two sides played their best football when they were kicking with it.

Defender O'Halloran was accidentally knocked out by his captain Eddie Fox and never fully recovered for the rest of the day. Austin Lewis suffered an epileptic seizure. Lewis was injured early but reappeared after half time.

Best were Moysey, Christie and McKenzie
