Saturday 1 May - MCG
Melbourne 6
Public Schools 1 (half time 2.7-0.1)
Melbourne win by 5 goals
Goalkickers: Mackenzie 3, Macdonald 1, Roberts 1, E. Longden 1
The combined forces of Scotch College, Melbourne Grammar, Wesley College and St Patrick's College provided the opening day's entertainment for Melbourne.
The senior side kicked into the wind in the first half, and they scored two behinds before the schools managed their first. From the restart Melbourne added another two behinds before Macdonald scored the first goal. It took half an hour to score another before Roberts added a second.
Melbourne dominated after the restart, kicking several more behinds before E. Longden booted the side's third. Shortly afterwards Mackenzie put the fourth and fifth goals on the board. He completed a 'hat trick' with a third goal in a row.
The schools got a consolation goal later in the piece but they were beaten comfortably.
Best were Nash, McKenzie and Booth.
