Profoundly deaf rover who first trained with the club in June 1960, Thorpe joined the Demons at the start of 1961. He was initially refused a clearance, but the matter was resolved in time for him to play Reserves games, but he did not appear in the seniors.
Appeared with North Melbourne in the 1962 pre-season but didn't play a senior game. Went to Port Melbourne for 1962 instead, then joined Brunswick the same year where he remained until end 1963.
