Joining his brothers Brian and Terry at the Demons, John was on the list in 1959 and 1960 but was forced to wait until 1961 to debut.
North Albury initially refused his clearance before the 1959 season, before relenting and allowing both he and Brian to join the club.
He played just two matches in his first season and was forced to have a knee cartilage operation in May 1962, after which he didn't play senior football again. In mid-1963 he applied for a clearance to Yarrawonga, where he was setting up business.
