Centerman who joined the Demons in 1955 after beginning the pre-season with North Melbourne, but did not play a senior game after returning to the amateurs despite making the final list.
He again missed out in 1956, but was one of the better players in that year's Reserves Grand Final.
As an amateur Collopy was selected to play for the combined VFA/VFL team in the Melbourne Olympic demonstration of Australian Rules Football. He was joined by teammate Denis Cordner.
Assigned number 23 in both 1955 and 1956.
