A week after winning their first league game for the season against Geelong, Melbourne registered another in their first clash against East Melbourne for the season.

The MCG was unavailable as it was in preparation for the new cricket season, but even though they weren't able to play at home Melbourne were still dominant. They kicked the first several behinds of the game, and soon after the restart both Ulbrick and Syme scored.

McKenzie booted a third near the end of the game and Melbourne registered a much needed victory in the city.

Best were Aitken, Longden and Ulbrick.

Notes
Some sources have East Melbourne kicking a point and Melbourne being on 0.7 at half time.
