Algernon Edward Millhouse was originally from Broken Hill, then under South Australian jurisdiction. He debuted for Norwood in 1911 and joined Melbourne with a huge reputation in 1913 which he failed to live up to.

The rover had also been pursued by St Kilda and Carlton before signing with Melbourne, and midway through the year he joined St Kilda. He instantly had more success with the Seasiders and he played every game for them from then on including their losing Grand Final against Fitzroy before returning to Norwood as captain/coach in 1914.

He enlisted for the Army in 1915 and served in the 32nd Battalion.
