On a windy day at Casey Fields, the Dockers kicked with the advantage and recorded the first goal of the day. Melbourne forced through a goal into the breeze to be just one point behind at quarter time, then took over with three goals to one before half time. The sides broke even at a goal each again in the third term, before another three goal to one term saw the Demons run out comfortable winners, strengthening their grip on top spot, and leaving them in the box-seat for the $1 million McClelland Trophy prize for best performing side across the men's and women's competitions.

Best were Paxman, West and McNamara. Maddie Gay (hamstring soreness) was replaced in the selected side by first gamer Georgia Gall.
