Highest score against Western Bulldogs and at Casey Fields

The Demons played their first game of the year at Casey, and were troubled by the Bulldogs until late in the second quarter. Two quick goals had the visitors within striking range before a major on the siren restored Melbourne's 16 point lead. The sides split six goals in the third term, before the Dogs were held scoreless in the last term while conceding 4.4. The score was Melbourne's best against the Dogs, and at Casey Fields, to that point.

Best were Hanks, McNamara and Hore. Bannan injured an ankle and Gay had hip soreness.
