The Hawks successfully kept Melbourne away from the ball and had six goals on the board before the Demons managed their first. The same pattern was repeated in the second, albeit with the Hawks scoring less frequently as they ran away with a comfortable victory and left Melbourne with a 2-2 record in the NAB Cup.

Best were Clark, Jones and Dunn.

James Magner suffered a finger injury.
