Ravaged by post-season injuries, call-ups to the Australian International Rules team and having traded Kyle Cheney to Hawthorn before the match, the Demons and Lions agreed to play the first match on Chinese soil as a 16-a-side match. Despite the reduced numbers, Brisbane were still forced to use an ex-rookie player who worked in their administration to make up the numbers.
Down by nearly five goals at the last change the Demons stormed home to win, with Liam Jurrah booting the last three goals of the game to get his side over the line in a thriller. Jake Spencer had started the comeback with a running goal at the start of the quarter, and goals to Bennell and Sylvia helped get the Demons back within striking distance before Jurrah's match winning cameo.
The Demons were captained by Brent Moloney.
