Melbourne win by 13 points

Goalkickers: Peter Sinclair 5, Graham Osborne 3, Geoff Harrold 3

The Tigers romped through the first quarter to take a massive 29 point lead into the opening break.

By half time, though, the Demons were just two points behind and Richmond had missed their chance to put the game away. The experienced Ross Dillon had 22 effective kicks from 24 and was a major player in the revival.

Peter Sinclair booted five goals, including three in the last quarter, to help win the match. The lead changed four times in the last quarter, but when the siren went Melbourne had won.

Dillon, Sinclair and Osborne were the best.
