Near misses
After an abysmal first half Jeff Farmer kicked 9 goals in the second half against Collingwood in Round 14, 2000. Farmer was on the bench when Ben Beams broke his arm and had to be replaced. Farmer kicked the first 9 from a variety of angles then missed a shot which may have been the easiest of the lot, and thus missed the opportunity to be the first - and it turns out only - Demon 10+ goalkicker of the 2000's
David Neitz kicked 9 goals against Richmond in Round 2, 2004. He had a shot at goal from about 50 metres out but passed the ball to Aaron Davey, who was then in his second AFL game. Neitz was quoted as saying "the crowd seemed to be much more excited when he got the ball than me."
