Lowest score against North Melbourne and at Arden Street

On an extremely windy day at Arden Street, North had a comfortable win despite not kicking a goal in the first or third quarters. The Demons fourth loss in a row was their lowest score in 14 years and lowest ever at Arden Street. Melbourne's season was already in tatters after their recent losses, and after their terrible performance against the Shinboners their chances of making the top four were even less likely as they crashed to ninth on the ladder.

Melbourne had the use of the wind first, but attacked poorly. Despite keeping North scoreless they only got one goal from three scoring shots. North made no such mistake, kicking five goals to three points before half time. It took 15 minutes of the third quarter to get Melbourne's second goal, but another soon after got them within a goal.

Early attacks at the start of the last term

It was the lowest score kicked by any team against North since they joined the league, and Melbourne's lowest score for over 20 years. Dick Kennedy kicked two of their three goals after coming into the side as a late replacement for Fanning (flu).

Best were Dockett, Ted Cordner and McLean. Arnold and Byfield replaced the injured Rule and Daly at three-quarter time and in the last quarter respectively.
