After having their perfect start to the season ruined by St. Kilda in round 4, Melbourne travelled to Sydney hoping to get their season back on track.
Brad Miller went into defence and comprehensively beat Barry Hall. The defence held firm so well that the Swans kicked just seven goals from 51 entries inside 50.
Melbourne's free flowing style had been curtailed, but Neale Daniher was happy to win ugly. "Our blokes can play, we have a very, very good team and we just showed we can do it both ways" he said.
