The Demons re-entered the top four after a few weeks out with their second consecutive victory, a hard fought win over the visiting Pivotonians.

Despite the win they were not particuarly impressive in victory against a side two wins worse off than them on the table. It was down to Melbourne's aerial dominance and a winning turn up front by Lance Arnold to carry them over the line and collect the vital four points.

Geelong got the first two goals of the game quickly after the first bounce, but they made the mistake of trying to play Melbourne at their own high-marking game and soon conceded three of their own. Melbourne led by a point at the first change. The second quarter saw each side have their own period of dominance, and the Demons extended their lead to five points.

Melbourne pulled away in the third quarter, then again in the last to win comfortably.

Best were McGrath, Cordner and Dullard. Roscoe and W. Scanlon were the 19th and 20th man.
