It didn't come without a fight but Melbourne snapped an eight game losing streak against the hapless, winless students to register just their second victory of the season.
In a poor quality game Melbourne were just better despite being comfortably outscored in the second half due to their poor kicking for goal. They also overcame the hurdle of losing the last quarter free kick count 4-24.
Joe Pearce was one of Melbourne's best at full back.
