After a week off for an interstate fixture the Demons kept their club record winning streak alive. They set up victory in the first quarter, with the match being played in poor conditions the Roys could never get close enough to challenge.
The quality of the game wasn't helped by the umpire insisting on bouncing the ball at every opportunity instead of throwing it up in the air, but the quality of the game was always going to be poor given the quagmire conditions.
The victory moved the Demons into equal third place in the (then) best winning streaks in league history.
Best were Denis Cordner, McLean and Case. Gleeson was replaced during the game by Bob Johnson and Williams by Baumgartner.
