South Australian schoolboy star who Melbourne signed in early 1973. They could not pry him away from Glenelg, and traded his rights to St Kilda as part of the deal which landed Carl Ditterich as playing coach in 1979. Despite initially indicating that he’d join the Saints, Carey changed his mind, stayed in SA and was later named in the AFL Hall of Fame.
