August 1894 Match vs Geelong

Saturday 25 August - East Melbourne

Melbourne 3.4, 3.5, 7.5, 7.5
Geelong 0.1, 2.8, 2.9, 3.13

Melbourne win by 4 goals

Goalkickers: McCarthy 3, Christy 2, Roche 1, McClelland 1

After seeing any remote chance they had of a late run at the flag ruined with a thumping loss against Essendon a week earlier, Melbourne bounced back with a comfortable win over a wasteful Geelong.

With a strong wind it was no surprise that at least one team would have trouble converting their chances, and that the ball would spend a lot of time out of bounds. The difference came in Melbourne's strong ruck play, they were no better in any other facet of the game.

Geelong had more chances, and were in the running at half time before conceding four goals from four shots early in the third quarter - with three goals coming from the boot of McCarthy.

Best were O'Halloran, Massey and O'Dwyer. Moore hurt his ankle.
