August 1880 match vs Western District

Tuesday 3 August - MCG

Melbourne 3
Western District 0 (half time 2-0.1)

Goalkickers: John Macdonald 2, Nash 1

The team representing Horsham and surrounding districts in their second match of a tour of Victoria, and with the use of a strong breeze the Reds had four shots on goal in the first four minutes but only registered four behinds to show for it.

After more behinds Macdonald finally added the first goal, and he got a second not long after when the Hamilton goalkeeper dropped the ball and allowed him to dribble it through the goal.

The wind dropped down at half time, and Western District had their best portion of the game - attacking the Melbourne goal constantly but they failed to convert and Melbourne managed to get a third through Nash. Western District attacked from there, but were unable to score again.

Aitken, Adams and Bennie were best.
