Needing to win, and for Adelaide to lose to Collingwood the next day, the Demons feasted on a poor Fremantle team to register the biggest win in the competition's short history. Making light of inaccuracy issues that had cost them during the year they racked up 10 goals straight by three quarter time.
It was all for nought, the Crows came from behind the next day to qualify for the Grand Final instead.
