The game was tight in the first quarter where Melbourne full-forward Ross Dillon was being well held. When Dillon was moved to the ruck and Graham Osborne thrown to full-forward it sparked the second quarter avalanche that put the Cats away. Osborne kicked 6.6.
Geelong were better after half-time but they couldn't crack the Demons who kept them at arms length throughout the third quarter and eventually increased their lead.
Best afield were Osborne, Wells and Davis.
