Richmond were the hosts of a match on Saturday July 5, but due to some selected players not turning up the match went ahead as a 15-a-side contest. Tom Wills opened the scoring for Richmond before Thompson scored two goals to give the Reds victory.
It was reported that many spectators strayed onto the slippery field and were bowled over by players as they went about their business.
