William Newton

William Newton DOB: 8 June 1919
Died: 29 March 1943

From: Melbourne Grammar/Old Melburnians

1938 pre-season follower. Did not play a senior game, but won state selection in the amateurs in 1938.

Newton enlisted in the RAAF in 1940, serving with distinction during World War II. He was captured and executed by Japanese forces in New Guinea in 1943. Newton was posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross.
