Melbourne's promising start to the season officially came to an end with their third loss in a row, wasteful with their attacks and easily beaten by the visitors.

The Redlegs fielded their best team in weeks, and went in as favourites, but they came undone against a St Kilda side who were finally getting their best 18 back together after weeks of battling with injury.

In muddy, slushy conditions the visitors adapted better and took an early lead which they never surrendered. Melbourne kicked themselves out of the game by botching numerous chances going forward.

It was the third week in a row where wet conditions had brought Melbourne unstuck.

Beames, Esposito and Vine were best.

St Kilda 7.9.51 d. Melbourne 6.7.43
