Melbourne's season went from bad to worse as they suffered their biggest ever loss at the SCG and in a Round 8 match.
A bright first few minutes evaporated when the hosts began piling on goals at the other end and a hapless Demons never recovered.
Best were Blease, Watts and Jones.
Jeremy Howe was nominated for Mark of the Year and later won the award.
Jamie Bennell replaced Cale Morton at three-quarter time. Liam Jurrah suffered an ankle injury during the last quarter in what would be his last match for the club.
