The Demons were given a lift to their attempts to win four in a row when the Bears lost three of their most experienced players - Mark Micken, Geoff Raines and Mark Williams - in a total of seven changes.

A six goal to one first quarter ended the game and by half time the margin was nine goals and the match was over. Brisbane still only had three goals on the board at the last change and only the Demons last quarter fade out saved the visitors from a bigger beating.

Best were Stynes, Wilson and O'Dwyer.
