With their finals berth sealed a week earlier, Melbourne was playing to earn a home final. A loss would have meant another game against the Giants, this time away from home.
After a nervy start the Demons hit back to take the lead into quarter time and kicked away from there. Five goals to three behinds in the third quarter won the game, and they were able to comfortably relax in the last quarter in preparation for their upcoming Elimination Final.
Best were Harmes, Gawn and Oliver. Dean Kent suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
